How it works
How garden windows work
Glass on the front, sides and top lets light in from every angle. Most have side vents that open for airflow, and a shelf inside for plants.
Why homeowners choose them
- Sunlight from three sides and above
- A built-in shelf for herbs and plants
- Side vents for airflow over the sink
- Makes a small kitchen feel bigger
Good to know
- On west-facing walls the top glass catches strong afternoon sun, so Low-E glass is important.
- It projects from the wall, so we check the outside clearance first.

In North Texas homes
Garden windows are a kitchen favorite in North Texas, where herbs like basil and rosemary love bright light. Because the top glass faces the sky, Low-E glass matters even more here than on a flat window.
What they cost
A specialty unit, priced above standard windows.
Size, glass and installation matter as much as style. See our window replacement cost guide.

FAQ
Garden windows: common questions
Still wondering about something? Call us at (469) 457-4049 — a real person will pick up. Or browse the full window replacement FAQ.
Do garden windows let in too much heat?
They can with old clear glass. Modern Low-E glass blocks much of the sun's heat while still letting in the light plants need.
Can a garden window replace my kitchen window?
Usually. We'll measure the opening and check the exterior wall to make sure it fits.
Are garden windows part of the $5,000 offer?
No. Like other specialty windows, garden windows are quoted individually; the offer terms have the details.
